Apply Your New Skills at Your Internship

What better way to learn than by doing something? The Massage Therapy program at Branford Hall requires that each student complete an internship. During the internship, you will participate in supervised clinical massage therapy, client assessment, and record keeping theory and practice. You will have the opportunity to incorporate the techniques you learned during your coursework. This gives you on-the-job training and builds your resume before you have even completed your training. This is one more way that Branford Hall students come prepared to their first job.

Massage Therapy and Certification

As massage therapy grows in popularity, more states are adopting licensing requirements for massage therapists, and often these requirements include passing a certification exam.

At Branford Hall, we encourage all graduates of the Massage Therapy program to take the national certification exam through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).

While our courses are designed to prepare our graduates for this exam, the exam is not offered by Branford Hall. It is the graduate’s responsibility to register for the exam through the NCBTMB’s website.

Depending on your campus and your career focus, you may be encouraged to take additional state licensing exams as well. Earning a certification and license will give you the added advantage of entering your new job field with proven skills.

Faith Novaco Massage Therapy Program

Faith Novaco had a college degree in radio broadcasting, but she soon discovered that she did not enjoy the competitive environment that she found in the field of radio advertising. Not sure what to do next, she began working in a day care center, but the pay was not good. “I put so much energy into my work, and I didn’t think that the compensation I received was equal to the work I put in,” Faith explained.

Faith’s husband Brian had once taken a few massage therapy courses, and suggested that Faith look into this field. Faith took his advice and liked what she learned. As a result, she decided to enroll in the Massage Therapy program at Branford Hall Career Institute in Branford, CT.

Faith enjoyed her time at Branford Hall, and she credits the positive experience to all of her instructors. “The teachers at Branford Hall were very skilled in massage therapy, and they showed that they cared about the students. They were nurturing, encouraging, and had a true passion for massage therapy,” Faith remembers.

After she completed the massage therapy program at Branford Hall, Faith became a Nationally Certified Licensed Massage Therapist. Shortly thereafter, she accepted a rewarding position at the Water’s Edge Resort and Spa in Westbrook, CT. She was able to use the skills she learned at Branford Hall while providing deep tissue, prenatal, Swedish, and hot stone massages, as well as spa body treatments and aromatherapy.

Faith says that her decision to go back to school has improved her life dramatically. “I love my career and have a passion for massage therapy. I am earning the pay I deserve, and my career possibilities have expanded,” she said.
