Apply Your New Skills at Your Externship
What better way to learn than by doing something? The Culinary Arts program at Branford Hall requires that each student complete an externship. You will gain first-hand experience in areas such as food preparation, beverage operations, menu-planning, budgeting, methods of table service, and business operations. This gives you on-the-job training and builds your resume before you have even completed your training. This is one more way that Branford Hall students come prepared to their first job.
Culinary Arts and Certification
All graduates of the Culinary Arts program are encouraged to take a certification exam through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. This organization offers two key certifications. The ServSafe® certification assesses the students’ knowledge and ability in safe food handling. The ServSafe® Alcohol certification prepares students to handle the risks and difficult situations that can arise in businesses which sell alcohol.
ServSafe® certifications need to be renewed every five years, so don’t forget about us after you graduate. Branford Hall students who graduated in good standing are welcome to come back to campus to take their recertification exams.
In addition to the ServSafe® certifications, students may want to consider taking certification exams in managerial accounting, hospitality and restaurant management, and menu marketing and management. While taking certification exams is not required, earning your certification gives you credibility and marketability. This will give you the added advantage of entering your new job field with proven skills.
