Connecticut & New Jersey Medical Assistant Courses

Title of Course Course Description
Anatomy and Physiology (Body Systems and Terminology) This introductory course looks at the human body, and studies the anatomy and physiology. The course also looks at the body systems, as well as diseases and disorders of these systems.

Clinical Procedures-Aseptic Techniques/Patient Exams

The Clinical Laboratory classes are taught through theoretical knowledge and hands on skills. Topics include: surgical asepsis, minor office surgery, medical asepsis and infection control, including OSHA and CLIA guidelines, safe behavior in clinical settings, charting and medical history, physical measurements and vital signs, assisting with physical examinations, special senses, medical specialty exams, and rehabilitative practices.

Clinical Procedures- EKG and Phlebotomy

This course expands on the theoretical knowledge and skills in clinical laboratory procedures. Topics include: EKG and hematology.

Billing, Insurance, and Coding (Medical Administrative Skills)

Billing systems and medical insurance are covered in this course, as well as an overview of codes for diseases and procedures. The course also focuses on methods of payments.

New York Medical Assistant Courses

Title of Course Course Description
Laboratory Procedures OSHA, CLIA mandates, Blood Borne pathogens standards, microscope usage, urinalysis procedures, microbiology procedures and sanitation, disinfection and sterilization procedures will be covered.  Included in this course will be the urinary system and immune system along with the associated terminology for those systems.  Minor surgery procedures will be introduced.

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomy procedure and equipment supplies are utilized. Other studies include blood analyzing equipment, quality control and quality assurance. Students will learn how to collect blood samples through capillary puncture, venipuncture and butterfly set-up with a syringe.

Anatomy and Physiology

This course will explore the integumentary system, skeletal and muscular systems, the nervous system, special senses, reproductive system, digestive system and endocrine system are explored along with their related terminology.  Diseases and disorders of each of these systems are also covered in this course.

This curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in patient care, office procedures, and office administration. Students who complete the coursework successfully are better prepared for certification exams, should they choose to take them. Branford Hall’s classroom coursework, along with its hands-on externship¹ program, gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to begin a new career.
