Recent Events on Southington Campus Bring Students Together

Students enjoy a special series of mini celebrations to kick off the summer

On Wednesday, May 24, the Southington Campus held an Italian Ice Day for the students. This was the first in a series of upcoming students events to be held on campus over the next few weeks.

“The campus staff handed out free Italian ice and popsicles to the students during their lunch break,” says Financial Aid Director Amanda Big Mountain, “so the students could have a bit of a break from the normal daily routine.” Executive Campus President Michele Grant provided the Italian ice, and the school’s Directors handed out the treats, including Ms. Big Mountain, Director of Education Kim Aylett, and Director of Career Services Evelyn Lech, who make up the group in charge of planning the event. Assistant Director of Admissions Shavonne McLendon also helped out in handing out ices that day. Since the weather was good, the event was held in front of the campus building by the flagpole.

These events have a long history at the campus. “They have been going on for the three years I have been here,” Ms. Big Mountain says, “but not as often as we are doing them now. Providing our students with events, as little as they may be, shows them that we care and that we want them to have a fun experience while studying with Branford Hall.”  For that reason, the staff will seek to put on similar events at least twice a month.

Upcoming events include:

  • Thursday, June 15: Rock Your Sports Gear!
Wear you favorite sports team apparel for the day. Jerseys, T-Shirts, ball caps!

Whatever you got, we want to see it! (Please no shorts, pajamas, or offensive attire.)

  • Wednesday, June 21: Summer Solstice Celebration!
Dress-down day in honor of the first day of summer! (Please no shorts.) Staff will hand out free Italian Ice and Hawaiian leis.
  • Monday, July 3– Red, White & Blue Day!
Campus dress-down day. Wear patriotic colors in celebration of July 4.

The events are publicized on the activities board created by the school’s front desk receptionist Azaria Zebrowski. Ms. Big Mountain will be maintaining flyers on each event, to make sure that they are up to date, and adding the pictures from the events to the board as they occur. So students—look there for images of yourselves in the days following these upcoming events!
