The Benefits of Drinking More Water

Replenish Your Day with H20!

Water is an essential part of our bodies. It makes up a significant percentage of our body’s composition and is one of the major building blocks that sustains life. If it weren’t for water, life on Earth wouldn’t exist.

There are many benefits of water that we often take for granted. Water not only helps hydrate our bodies, but it can also help prevent headaches, aid in digestion, and relieve bloating. Since water is a natural liquid, it’s much healthier for humans to drink than carbonated or high-sugar drinks like sodas or juices.

To celebrate National Nutrition Month, Branford Hall offers a short guide to show the benefits drinking water has on our health.

Here are some reasons why you should drink water daily:

1.    Hydrate your body

Hydration is when your body absorbs water so it can function properly. Water is known to be the best and the most natural hydrating liquid. It promotes cardiovascular health, keeps muscles and joints working, and helps cleanse toxins from your body. Staying hydrated also helps balance your blood sugar, helps relieve headaches, and promotes healthy skin.

If you don’t drink water every day, your body could experience dehydration which could cause tiredness, slow brain function, irritability, dryness, and high temperature. Hydrating improves your overall health and will help you feel balanced and energized throughout your busy day.

2.    Maximize physical performance

Physical performance can benefit from drinking water. When you drink, the nutrients in the water are released inside and outside of the cells of contracting muscles. The liquid revitalizes muscles and electrolytes and also removes waste from your body so you can perform better. Water also helps lubricate your joints, which can make you more limber.

3.    Improve brain function

Dehydration causes you to become fatigued, causing slower brain function. Water helps blood vessels expand and helps supply oxygen so the brain works properly. If you drink water each day, you can see your energy improve and you may do better on that pop quiz!

4.    Promote weight loss

Drinking up to eight glasses—or 64 ounces— of water as part of a healthy diet can help promote weight loss. Studies have shown that drinking water helps boost metabolism and makes you feel full, minimizing hunger and calorie intake. If you pair drinking eight glasses of water with water-based foods like cucumbers or fruit, you could reap the benefits of a healthy, lean diet.

 5. Save money

Drinking water can help you feel full, but it will also help you save money. Buying drinks from coffee shops or soda machines will have you spending $2-$4 per drink. If you purchase a reusable canister or water bottle to fill up with tap water throughout the day, you can save significant amounts of money.

It’s important to maintain a healthy body so you can feel good and live up to your fullest potential at work or school. Drink water to see the benefits in both your mind and body!
