The town of Windsor is well situated for business. The state capital, Hartford, is just south of Windsor; Bradley International Airport is just over the northern border; the Connecticut River lies to the east; and I-91 runs straight through Windsor from north to south.
One illustration of its strategic location is the Traveler’s Insurance training complex located in Windsor. Travelers Insurance, one of the largest insurance companies in the U.S., has a headquarters in Hartford. Its decision to build a large training complex in Windsor suggests how conveniently located Windsor is.
Known as the “Insurance Capital of the World,” Hartford, CT is home to many insurance company headquarters including Travelers, Aetna and The Hartford. Insurance remains a major industry in the region, but Hartford’s strong economy comes from its diverse business and industrial community. High-tech manufacturing, data processing, telecommunications, medical care, research, education, and the state government are all part of the Hartford economic landscape.
In addition to its proximity to Hartford, Windsor is in the heart of what’s known as the “Knowledge Corridor” because of the number of universities and students in the area. The corridor runs along I-91 and connects Hartford, CT and Springfield MA. In this corridor, there is a heavy concentration of hospitals, and over 30 universities and liberal arts colleges.
